Soundwave Tattoos: What Is Soundwave?
These soundwave tattoo designs "record" a sound file on your skin that can then be played back in audio with the help of augmented reality. This interactive art is the first product of the Los Angeles start-up, Skin Motion, and works with an app that creates tattoo designs from sound files. All you need is to record the desired sound in the application, which translates it into an image to immortalize your body. Once tattooed, the soundwave tattoo design can be "read" in augmented reality, making it possible to hear the sound/ message/ music directly from your skin.

Nate Siggard and Soundwave Tattoos
The soundwave tattoo design idea came from a client of Nate Siggard, tattoo artist and CEO of Skin Motion, who wanted to put on the skin the first line of a popular soundbyte, sparking a debate about how cool it would be to "hear" the tattoo. When he published the video of the idea, it went viral. Siggard then decided to make the concept accessible to the public through this technology that creates personalized augmented reality tattoos that are pioneers in the genre. These soundwave tattoos are a new type of media that bridges the physical and digital world in real time and the goal is to make the act of tattooing even more special: for example, the company expects the technology to be used to immortalize the voice of a lost loved one, so that it can always be with the person who gets the soundwave tattoo design.

Soundwave Tattoos and the Application Playing It
The application should be available from next month, but you can already include your name on a waiting list. If you are a tattoo artist, the company also offers registrations in case you want to work with the brand, becoming a certified soundwave tattoo artist. If you are about to get a soundwave tattoo design, this kind of apps are ready for you.

The Skin Motion Company and Soundwave Tattoo Designs
A soundwave or simply in German AUDIOKURVE is only the visual representation of a digital audio recording. You can see them in any AUDIO editing program (e.g. Audacity). Their real function is to cut or edit audio files quickly.
The idea to give away a SOUNDWAVE (audio curve) as a personal picture or to print it out and hang it on the wall is not new. It has been around for a long time. It is a nice gift, individual and personal.
So someone thought: "Let's make audio samples as a tattoo too". By the way... I also believe that the audio pattern as a tattoo was available before the Skin Motion company, only without this expensive service.

Barcodes and Soundwave Tattoos
Now a resourceful businessman has actually thought: "Why not get the whole thing as a soundwave tattoo and earn money with it?"
But not as a tattoo artist but as a provider to be able to play these soundwave tattoo designs as sound with the mobile phone. Or so it seems, and that's how they sell it to potential customers. Customers are led to believe that this app on their mobile phones can convert and play the sound curves with the mobile phone camera on their skin. Actually a very nice idea if it really worked! Who doesn’t want his/her soundwave tattoo design to be live? Everyone immediately thinks, “Why not? There's an app for everything ”.
In fact, there is already software that can identify people using facial recognition. Or the barcode scanner app can decode the pattern and open the link read out directly on the iphone in the browser. You can try to find it and make your own soundwave tattoo designs pronounce for you.

Free Music Player and Soundwave Tattoos
The app offered here (which you can of course download for free on your mobile phone) is more APPEARANCE as BEING. Because in REALITY the software recognizes the soundwave tattoo design by camera like a bar code scanner, but the file that is then played by the iPhone must first be uploaded to the provider and then linked and played by the app. So nothing really SPECIAL.
Now you could just as easily have a barcode tattooed (like in the 90s) and play a sound previously stored on the Internet via a browser and all of this for free. Not to mention why you should do that. The software cannot really read your soundwave tattoo design and convert to an audio file! It only seems so!

The Price of the App and Soundwave Tattoos
The price for one annual subscription from $ 39 (only $ 10 in the second year)you only find out when you have created an account and downloaded the app - installed it. The soundwave tattoo design is of course not included, this should only be done by skin motion-certified tattoo artists. And what you should maybe think about beforehand! If the provider goes bankrupt and the project is crushed, nobody can listen to their audio file! Then went stupid. So it’s fair to pay for your soundwave tattoo design and as well listen to it.

My Opinion of Soundwave Tattoos
I'm sure in a few years there will also be a free app that can really convert such curves into an audio file. How that sounds like is another question.
The idea of soundwave tattoo is actually very nice. But you can also simply use a free audio program (audacity or similar) to create a soundwave of your sound yourself and have it go to your trusted tattoo artist and get a soundwave tattoo design.
